New class 1 commercial driver license applicants require compulsory entry-level training (MET), according to the department of transport and infrastructure and ICBC. This training has been made mandatory for new class 1 applicants to ensure everyone's safety on British Columbia's roads.
National safety code standards minimum requirements will be exceeded by the MELT program of British Columbia for class 1 drivers training. The MELT program will help employers looking for skilled, professional and confident drivers who can drive safely.
MET is a prerequisite for class 1 applicants for all ICBS road tests. To emphasize safe practices for mountainous terrain and a variety of road conditions, the British Columbia program will incorporate other Canadian jurisdictions’ best practices. All this will make the drivers prepared for the diverse BC road network and other changing climatic conditions.
